Business casual

Popular dress code

Business casual is a popular dress code that emerged in white-collar workplaces in Western countries in the 1970s, in response to the energy crisis of that decade.Managers authorized employees to stop wearing ties and jackets because air conditioners were used less to save energy.

Business English conversation groups

Business casual is also what I call my business conversation groups. I meet with small groups of business people for a casual, yet directed, conversation in English. It is not meant to be a formal, classroom-type situation, but a casual environment in which to practice business English.

Individual learning

This format is also useful for 1:1 tutoring. Articles specifically related to topics of interest to the individual can be chosen and used to build vocabulary, increase confidence and improve fluency in business and social settings.

Why bother learning English?

Globalization

Taiwan's economy is heavily dependent on foreign trade. English is the international business language, even between two non-English speaking countries. Despite China's increasing influence in the global economy, English will remain the language of business for the foreseeable future.

Job opportunities

Being able to conduct business in English will open more doors at both local and foreign companies. Increasingly, multi-national companies are requiring existing employees as well as new-hires pass English proficiency tests, such as the TOEIC.

Broaden your horizons

Learning English, or any new language, will allow you to gain a new perspective on different places and cultures. Enjoy movies, music and books with a new understanding. Make international travel easier.

Be a part of the exciting new world. Learn new technologies, experience different cultures and participate in international business.
